Catrinas
La Catrina was created sometime around 1910 by famous Mexican printmaker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer José Guadalupe Posada. While the original work by Posada introduced the character, the popularity of La Catrina as well as her name is derived from a work by artist Diego Rivera in his 1947.
La Catrina has become the referential image of Death in Mexico, it is common to see her embodied as part of the celebrations of Day of the Dead throughout the country, I specially love the black clay catrinas made in Oaxaca and the Papier Maché ones made in Veracruz.
My catrina dolls are hand made with fabrics and paper, each one of them has a story and are full of the nostalgia and love I have for the beauty and traditions of my country.
